The historical arboretum
The arboretum was located in a forest glade with sufficient moisture year-round without the risk of waterlogging. On 1000 square metres, you can still find black pines, some old blue spruce trees and Douglas firs (exotics).
The seeds of various tree species, which were collected in the forest, were sown in this area to obtain seedlings for reforestation.
There are still some blue spruce and Douglas fir trees present that are more than 90 years old.
At the behest of the Heringsdorf Corporation, a forester was appointed to creation and care for the arboretum.
After World War II, the innovative forester Josef Polz from the Riesengebirge region on the border to the Czech Republic continued the work of his predecessors.
